New York, NY - Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, famed country singer Willie
Nelson, and opera star and arts impresario Beverly Sills will join the AGS Foundation
for Health in Aging at its first annual Lifetime of Caring Awards Gala Benefit. This
inaugural Gala, to take place on Monday, October 16th at the Plaza Hotel in New York
City, will celebrate the FHA's first full year of championing initiatives in public
education, clinical research and public policy that focus on the special health care
needs of older adults. The Gala will honor Former President Jimmy Carter and Mrs.
Rosalynn Carter, the first recipients of the FHA Lifetime of Caring Award. Mrs. Carter
will accept the award on behalf of her husband and herself.
The FHA Lifetime of Caring Award pays tribute to individuals or organizations that through
extraordinary personal example, or exemplary public service, philanthropy, or research have made
a significant contribution to improving our capacity to care, not only for older people, but for
ourselves as we age. The AGS Foundation for Health in Aging is privileged to honor the
Caarters, in recognition of the impact they have made on the lives of others and on our society
as a whole. The Carters offer a model of service that inspires us to make our vision of
improving the health and well being of older adults, a reality.
This memorable evening will include entertainment by Willie Nelson. Ms. Beverly Sills will
serve as the Mistress of Ceremonies.
Major corporate support for the 2000 FHA Annual Campaign is being provided by Johnson & Johnson
