How Has a Geriatric Health Care Provider Affected Your Life?
"There's definitely a need for this kind of care, especially with so many people getting older. I feel very fortunate to have this kind of care."
Share Your Story -- and Help Others
As the population of older Americans continues to grow, an increasing number of us are now facing the challenge of finding health care that meets the unique needs of older adults -- ourselves, or our loved ones.
Here at the American Geriatrics Society's Foundation for Health in Aging (FHA), we know that care provided by geriatric health care professionals -- health care providers who have special training and expertise in treating older adults -- can make a tremendous difference in people's lives. We've heard it over and over from individuals and families who have shared their stories with us.
How has a geriatric health care provider helped you or a loved one? How has this changed your life? By sharing your stories -- particularly your stories of challenges and triumphs -- you may encourage someone who needs the help of a geriatric health care provider to seek it.
"Geriatric psychiatrists really understand the problems seniors face - losses of important people in your life, illnesses, other life changes that are stressful and make you feel anxious or depressed and make it harder to cope in healthy ways."

Are You a Geriatric Health Care Provider?
We want to hear your stories, too! If you are a geriatric health care provider, we want to hear what you think sets geriatrics apart from other fields. What makes geriatrics unique and uniquely appropriate for older adults? Your stories about patients whose cases have moved you, and that demonstrate the value of geriatrics care, can help raise awareness of the importance of geriatrics.
"As geriatrics health care providers, we have all known and cared for patients and families who value geriatric expertise. It is time to get these stories out there so that the public and policy makers realize the important contributions geriatricians and geriatric health care providers make to improve the care and quality of life of older people, as well as their loved ones."
