Get Involved in Shaping Care for Future Generations
With the leading edge of baby boomers slated to turn 65 in 2011, we're facing a crisis in health care. There are, for example, fewer than 7,000 certified geriatricians in the country today (just one for every 5,000 adults 65 and older) and, thanks to problems with the way the nation's health care delivery system is structured, many are not accepting new patients. By 2030, one in five Americans will be over 65 and 10 million of us will have celebrated our 85th birthdays. Yet, we're not training nearly enough health care providers to meet the demands of an aging population. You can help us advocate for changes in our health care system that will lead to better care for older adults - now and in the future.
