A companion grant program to the National Institute on Aging RO3 award: Grants for Early Medical/Surgical Subspecialists' Transition to Aging Research (GEMSSTAR Program)

About GEMSSTAR
The National Institute on Aging's (NIA) GEMSSTAR awards support early career physicians trained in medical and surgical subspecialties through an RO3 mechanism that will provide up to $100,000 in direct costs over two years for research on the geriatrics aspects of their specialty. This new award requires some level of supplemental funding (match) as explained in the RFA. The award is an early career award with the goal of helping researchers establish a research track record in the field of geriatrics research while at once (via supplemental funding) nurturing their academic career though formal class room education or other means of career development. Junior faculty, in the early stages of their first appointment, are encouraged to work with their institution or organization and apply. The T. Franklin Williams Award/GEMSSTAR offers one supplemental funding (matching) mechanism.
