Applications are reviewed by a Selection Committee of nationally prominent academic physicians listed in this brochure. Final selection of grant recipients is made by the Selection Committee.
In their evaluations, Selection Committee members consider:
- Potential of applicant to become an independently funded investigator and to assume a leadership role in the field of health outcomes for older adults.
- The applicant's commitment to an academic research career devoted to improving the care of older adults.
- Scientific merit of the research proposal and its importance to improving the care of older adults.
- Likelihood that the research proposal will lead to future funded research projects
- Impact of the proposed project on the applicant's career.
- Evidence of the primary sponsor's commitment to the applicant through the period of the program as well as the sponsor's experience in research and training in the applicant's area of interest in outcomes research.
- Training plan provided by the sponsor.
- The applicant's institutional commitment to the area of research outlined in the research proposal, including protected time and provision of facilities by the institution to enable the applicant to conduct the research.
