Public Education

The FHA aims to develop public education programs that enhance health promotion and disease prevention throughout the life cycle that contribute to wellness, activity, and independence later in life; and educate older adults and their families/caregivers about how to live with multiple chronic illnesses or disabilities and access appropriate medical care, rehabilitative and support services.

Public Education Resources

Aging In The Know is a “One-Stop-Shop” for people who have found themselves dealing with older adult health issues. Aging in the Know includes:

  • Information on specific diseases and disorders that affect many older adults, including direct linkages organized by health topic to other credible resources on the Web.

  • “What to Ask” series providing disease and condition-specific questions that older adults or their caregivers can use to guide their healthcare conversations with their clinicians.

  • Latest Research feature that provides easy-to-understand summaries of recent clinical investigations published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society (JAGS).

  • “FHA Tip Sheets” on various seasonal and timely topics.

  • A directory containing the full contact information of federal government agencies and national not-for-profit organizations that address the special health care needs of older adults.
