An artery is a type of blood vessel that carries blood from the heart to the rest of the body. When an artery gets wider, its walls become weaker. This can lead to a tear, or rupture of the artery. This is called a ruptured aneurysm.

When aneurysms happen people have severe bleeding (hemorrhage), stroke, or death.
