The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs in your lower back.

They clean your blood by removing waste. They help keep the right balance of chemicals and fluids in your body. The kidneys also remove extra fluid and waste from food and medicines.

In addition, the kidneys help control blood pressure and help your body make red blood cells.
