{"id":371,"date":"2014-05-28T15:42:20","date_gmt":"2014-05-28T19:42:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.healthinaging.org\/blog\/?p=371"},"modified":"2014-05-28T15:42:20","modified_gmt":"2014-05-28T19:42:20","slug":"remembering-maya-angelou","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.healthinaging.org\/blog\/remembering-maya-angelou\/","title":{"rendered":"Remembering Maya Angelou"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We at the Health in Aging Foundation are saddened by the loss of Maya Angelou today.\u00a0 In 2002, we presented Ms. Angelou with the Lifetime of Caring Award for her embodiment of graceful aging. \u00a0It was a festive occasion that included Ms. Angelou charming the crowd with a few lines of \u201cThis Little Light of Mine\u201d and leading a standing ovation for the Girls Choir of Harlem.\u00a0 In her remarks she reminded us to live a full, rich life and not take its everyday gifts for granted. \u00a0She closed with a few lines from her poem, <em>On Aging<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>On Aging<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">When you see me sitting quietly, like a sack upon a shelf,<br \/>\nDon\u2019t think I need your chattering. \u00a0I\u2019m listening to myself.<br \/>\nHold! Stop!
