SSRI
Any type of antidepressants that prolong the effect of serotonin (the neurotransmitter involved with sleep, mood, and other processes) by stopping its reabsorption by neurons (nerve endings).

Stent
A short narrow metal or plastic tube often in the form of a mesh that is inserted into a blood vessel (or other tubular structures) to keep it open.

Stupor
A condition of greatly dulled or completely suspended sense.

Subcutaneous
Being, living, used, or made under the skin.

Supplement
An addition to a person's diet to provide nutrients, vitamins, fatty acids, minerals, or amino acids.

Surrogate
A surrogate is an appointed person to act on behalf of another person when appropriate/needed.

Syncope
A lack of blood flow to the brain causing loss of consciousness (a faint).

Systolic
Systolic blood pressure shows the maximum amount of pressure occurring during the contraction of the heart by which the blood is forced onward and the circulation kept up.

The practice of medicine when the doctor and patient are separated and rely on technology such as satellites, computers, or closed-circuit televison.

Tetanus
A serious infectious disease characterized by contractions and spasms of voluntary muscles especially of the jaw. The disease is produced by a bacterium and is usually contracted by a wound.
