Each year, this award supported one academic geriatrician conducting research on older adults via sub-specialists of internal medicine. The T. Franklin Williams Award was offered in collaboration with the Association for Subspecialty Professors (ASP), and was supported by a generous grant from the Atlantic Philanthropies. From 2012-2015, it also served as a companion to the National Institute on Aging GEMSSTAR Program.

## T. Franklin Williams Award Program (2006 - 2010)

The T. Franklin Williams Award provided project support over two years to a junior faculty geriatrician conducting research in collaboration with a sub-specialist of internal medicine in a sub-specialty related to the care of older adults. The award was intended to support the academic career development of a promising geriatrics physician-scientist.

## T. Franklin Williams/GEMSSTAR Research Scholars Award (2012 - 2015)

From 2012 to 2015, the T. Franklin Williams Award was a companion grant program to the National Institute on Aging RO3 Award Grants for Early Medical/Surgical Subspecialists’ Transition to Aging Research (GEMSSTAR) Program. GEMSSTAR awards support early-career physicians trained in medical and surgical subspecialties, with the goal of helping researchers establish a research track record in the field of geriatrics.
