Foot Problems

Diagnosis & Tests

A podiatrist or other trained healthcare professional will evaluate your feet based on:

  • Family history of foot problems,
  • Medical history, including arthritis, diabetes, or other conditions
  • Information about your foot problem, including severity, when it began, how long it has lasted
  • Lifestyle and physical activities
  • Medications
  • A physical exam (blood circulation, skin condition, nerve function, bone structure)
  • Ability to stand, walk, and balance
  • X-rays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) scans if necessary
  • Doppler test (to check blood flow)
  • Tuning fork test to check for nerve sensitivity
