Foot Problems

Diagnosis & Tests

Your podiatrist or other trained healthcare professional will evaluate your feet based on:

  • your medical history, including your family history for foot problems, arthritis, diabetes, or other related conditions
  • information about your foot problem, such as severity, when it began, how long it has lasted
  • your lifestyle and physical activities
  • a review of your medications
  • a physical exam (blood circulation, skin condition, nerve function, bone structure)
  • your ability to stand, walk, and balance
  • x-rays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) scans if necessary
  • Doppler test (to check blood flow)
  • Tuning fork test to check for nerve sensitivity.
