Symptoms depend on the type of glaucoma and how advanced it is.
Open-angle glaucoma
- Usually has no symptoms in the early stages.
- Can cause small blind spots, often on the sides of your vision. Sometimes blind spots appear in the center.
- In early stages, it may be harder to see at night or to tell objects apart in low light.
- In later stages, one may have “tunnel vision,” where side vision is lost and only central vision remains.
Angle-closure glaucoma
- Severe eye pain
- Red or bloodshot eye
- Severe headache
- Nausea or vomiting
- Blurry vision
- Seeing halos or bright rings around lights
- Sudden loss of vision
If you have these symptoms get emergency medical care immediately.
