How Skin Changes As You Age
- Sun and pollution damage skin cells.
- Skin gets thinner, so it tears and bruises more easily.
- Skin gets weaker and heals more slowly.
- Skin gets drier, which can cause itching, cracking, and infection.
The skin's immune system also weakens with age.
This raises the risk of infections and other skin problems. Two ways to protect skin from sun damage:
- Use sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays.
- Stay out of direct sunlight by wearing protective clothing, wide-brimmed hats, and sunglasses.
